Michele Trachtenberg (“Harriet the Spy;” “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”) plays DOROTHY; marathon broadcast airs Thanksgiving Day on 89.9/KCRW

On Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23, from 9 am to 1 pm, KCRW (89.9 FM/KCRW.com) offers its listeners a feast of sound, with a four-hour marathon broadcast of an all-new, all-star, original audio production, THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ: A Centennial Celebration, based on L. Frank Baum’s classic novel. Produced by The Los Angeles Children’s Museum, in association with Otherworld Media, the production is timed to celebrate the centennial anniversary of the book’s publication.

Firesign Theatre founding father DAVID OSSMAN has provided a new script, true to the original book and faithful to its characterizations. It fully mines the humor and fantasy of Baum’s narrative, allowing a listening audience of all ages to actively imagine the adventures of Dorothy and her friends. Fun enough for children, but sophisticated enough for grown-ups, the production features magical and masterful digital soundscapes and special effects, and boasts a new score based on tunes of a century ago (including some by L. Frank Baum himself), created and arranged by noted Los Angeles music director, Scott Nagatani.

The cast includes: HARRY ANDERSON as The Wizard;NESTOR SERRANO as The Tin Woodman
MICHELLE TRACHTENBERG as Dorothy; ANNETTE BENING as Glinda the Good; PHYLLIS DILLER as the Wicked Witch, among others. Trachtenberg, who at the age of 15 has a long list of film and TV credits, may best be known currently as Dawn Summers in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” and for her starring roles in “Harriet the Spy” (Harriet) and “Inspector Gadget” (Penny).

The travellers to the Emerald City are played by Broadway and TV stars René Aubérjonois as The Scarecrow and Robert Guillaume as The Cowardly Lion, film heavy Nestor Serrano as the Tin Woodman, and comic actor Phil Proctor as Toto.

Another Press Release:

NESTOR SERRANO as The Tin Woodman
MICHELLE TRACHTENBERG as DOROTHY GALE

Best known for her role as “Harriet The Spy,” opposite Rosie O’Donnell, 15-year-old Michelle also starred as “Penny” in Disney’s feature hit, “Inspector Gadget.” Soap fans will remember Michelle from her challenging role as the autistic “Lily Montgomery” on ABC’s “All My Children.” She was a regular on the popular Nickelodeon series “The Adventures of Pete and Pete,” and can be seen on UPN’s “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”.
